The Community Assistance Team at St. John's Lutheran Church puts Christian faith into action by helping individuals, families, and communities facing emergencies, natural disasters, and other difficult circumstances. Rooted in Christ's command to love our neighbors, this ministry brings together congregation members who are willing to offer their time, talents, and energy to serve people in need.

Disaster Response and Recovery

Our Community Assistance Team is active in Lutheran emergency response efforts, working alongside other Lutheran volunteers and disaster response teams to provide practical assistance when communities are affected by natural disasters.

Disasters such as tornadoes, severe storms, and flooding can leave families facing overwhelming challenges. Recovery often requires many helping hands, and our team seeks to be part of that effort. By participating in organized disaster response activities, members have opportunities to make a meaningful difference in the lives of their neighbors.

Recently, members of our Community Assistance Team assisted with **tornado recovery efforts in Wisconsin's Fox Valley**, helping communities affected by severe weather. This work reflects our commitment to serving not only our own congregation and immediate community, but also neighbors throughout the region.

Training and Preparedness

Effective disaster response requires preparation. Our Community Assistance Team has helped coordinate training opportunities that equip volunteers with the knowledge and skills needed to assist safely and effectively during emergencies.

Working with Lutheran emergency response organizations, the team helps connect interested individuals with training and opportunities to become involved in disaster relief.

These efforts strengthen our congregation's ability to respond when needs arise and help build relationships with other Christians who share a commitment to serving their communities.

Christian Service in Times of Need

As Lutherans, we believe that we are saved by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ, not by our good works. Yet faith naturally expresses itself in love and service toward our neighbors.

The Community Assistance Team provides a practical opportunity to live out that calling. When disasters strike, people need more than words of encouragement. They may need someone willing to show up, work alongside them, and help with the difficult tasks of recovery.

Our service is offered freely, without regard to the religious background of those receiving assistance. We serve because Christ has first served us.

Building a Stronger Community

Beyond individual disaster response efforts, the Community Assistance Team helps foster a spirit of preparedness, cooperation, and mutual care. By connecting volunteers, coordinating training, and participating in regional relief efforts, the ministry helps our congregation remain ready to respond when opportunities to serve arise.

The team also demonstrates that even a relatively small congregation can make a meaningful contribution when its members work together with other churches and organizations.

Get Involved!

If you enjoy helping others, working with your hands, learning practical skills, or simply making yourself available when someone needs assistance, the Community Assistance Team offers a meaningful way to serve.

You don't need to be an emergency response professional to express interest. There are many ways that people with different abilities and experiences can contribute to disaster relief and community assistance.

Through this ministry, St. John's Lutheran Church seeks to be a faithful neighbor, offering practical help and Christian compassion to those facing some of life's most difficult circumstances.
